Cumbria Pest/ Hygiene and Training Services has the following Health & Safety Courses:
Level 1 - Principles of Manual Handling (£30 + VAT, 3xhrs Course)
Overview - This qualification introduces candidates to the hazards and risks involved in manual handling and outlines what to expect from a manual handling assessment. It will enable employees to develop safer manual handling techniques in the workplace.
Outline Programme - The process of manual handling in the workplace. Manual handling injuries and the activities which cause them. Manual handling assessment and control options. Responsibilities imposed by the Manual Handling Operations Regulations
Level 1 - Certificate in Stress Awareness (£40 + VAT, 4xhrs Course)
Overview - Introduction to the issue of work-related stress. This qualification raisesawareness of the likely sources of work-related stress. It is aimed at general workers and also serves as an introduction to the issue for more senior staff. The qualification will enable employees to contribute to strategies which combat work-related stress.
Outline Programme - The qualification covers the following topics; Definitions of stress, Stress as an occupational health hazard, Identification of basic workplace stressors, Development of basic controls for work-related stressors, Responsibilities imposed under UK legislation.
Level 2 - Award in Health & Safety in the Workplace (£50 + VAT, Full Day Course)
Overview - New and completely revised qualification. The CIEH Level 2 Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace. The qualification can be tailored to business and individual needs to make the learning experience relevant and fit for purpose.
Outline Programme - The qualification covers the following topics; Legislation, Health, Safety, Welfare, Work place and workplace equipment, Risk assessment, Manual handling, Hazardous substances, Ergonomics and work station design, Transport and vehicles, Noise and vibration.
Level 2- Award in Hygiene in Health & Social Care (£30 + VAT, 3xhrs Course)
Overview - Provides employees with an introduction to hygiene hazards and how to control them. In the UK over a million people are employed as carers and millions more provide informal care and support for relatives and friends. The Department of Health has drawn up a code of practice acknowledging that everyone involved in care provision needs training to tackle the risk of Health Care Acquired Infection (HCAI). This new CIEH qualification is designed as an introduction to hygiene and ensures that vulnerable people are not exposed to unnecessary risks. It will help everyone, including those in the private and voluntary healthcare sectors, to play their part in maintaining a clean and safe environment.
Outline Programme - The qualification covers the following topics; Hygiene hazards, Personal hygiene, Cleaning.
Level 2 - Awards in Health & Safety in Health & Social Care (£50 + VAT, Full Day Course)
Overview - Provides employees with a good understanding and knowledge of health and safety in the health and social care setting. Based on the first part of the CIEH Level 2 Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace - an introduction to health and safety adapted for health and social care - and the CIEH Level 2 Award in Hygiene, this qualification provides candidates with a good understanding and knowledge of health and safety in the health and social care sector.
Outline Programme - The qualification covers the following topics; Legislation, Health, Safety, Welfare, Hygiene awareness, Hygiene hazards, Personal
hygiene, Cleaning.
Level 2 - Award in Conflict Resolution & Personal Safety (£50 + VAT, Full Day Course)
Overview - Helps organisations protect their staff as well as their organisational and operational effectiveness. Work related violence is on the rise and yet employers have a duty of care to provide a safe place of work. This is not easy in environments where the potential for conflict and aggression is high. Zero tolerance initiates and commitment to prosecution have brought improvements in organisations like the NHS, London Underground and many pubs and clubs that now work together to monitor and bar known troublemakers. Yet high staff turnover and a lack of training mean many people are still vulnerable to physical
and psychological damage. The costs to businesses can be very high indeed. The CIEH has developed this qualification to help organisations protect their staff as well as theirorganisational and operational effectiveness.
Outline Programme - The qualification covers the following topics; The law, The work environment, Resolving confrontational situations, Personal safety.
Level 2 - Award in the Principles of COSHH (£40 + VAT, 4xhrs Course)
Overview - This qualification is designed for those who use substances hazardous to health at work. It introduces candidates to substances, the risks and controls available, and outlines what to expect from a control of sustances hazardous to health (COSHH) assessment. The qualification will prepare employees to contribute to the safer use of hazardous substances in their workplaces.
Outline Programme - This qualification covers the following topics; Definition and types of substances hazardous to health in the workplace, Health effects of hazardous substances and their causes, COSHH assessments and control options, Responsibilities imposed by the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health
Regulations 2002
Level 3 - Award in Risk Assessment Principles and Practice (£195 + VAT, 20xhrs, includes coursework)
Overview - Employers and the self employed have a legal duty to assess health and safety risks. Anyone carrying out a risk assessment needs to have the necessary knowledge and skills. This qualification ensures that supervisors and managers have the necessary depth of understanding to enable them to carry out risk assessments.
Outline Programme - This qualification covers the following topics; Legislation, Principles of risk assessment, Prioritising risk, Controls, Documentation, Monitoring controls, Risk assessment in practice.
Level 3 - Certificate in Supervising Health & Safety (£295 + VAT, 20xhrs Course)
Overview - Supervisors have both a legal and moral responsibility to look after the health and safety of employees. This qualification will enable managers and supervisors to improve the health and safety culture of their organisation, whatever its size or activity.
Outline Programme - This qualification covers the following topics; Concept of health and safety, Accidents in the workplace, Ill health in the workplace, Legal provisions (UK only), Health and safety organisation and management, Supervising health and safety. 2 course assignments are required.
